December 30th or 31st 2009, someone broke into my garage and stole two cargo bikes -the "Kidfiets" picture above is still missing. If you happen across this bike, please help me recover it by calling :
(503) 901-8569 or emailing tslabonty@hotmail.com. Thanks for looking, Tom

*Update: On the left is how it looked when my family owned it, the center is the bike in the police impound yard & on the right is the rebuilt, repainted and ressurected bike with it's new owners*
On March 30st, 2010,this bike was posted, for sale on Portland craigslist. Jess, a person I've never met, alerted me within hours. Also, Wake, from the ebike store, called personally to let me know. It is overwhelming the amount of well wishing emails and phone calls I received in the aftermath of the original theft. On March 31st, thanks to the two people mentioned above, the Portland PD and a couple of honest CL users - the bike is safe and sound. I'd like to say "thank you" to all of those who were on the lookout and had me in your thoughts.
Now, some advice from a fool, please record your serial numbers! I did not and here is what happened. My bike was found by the police 3 days after it went missing, and was then impounded. But because I was unable to provide a serial number, the theft report and the impound report never cross referenced. This bike sat in police lock up until a innocent bystander bought it at the Salem Police surplus auction late March. If only I had recorded the serial number the bike would've been returned within a week - instead it took three months and alot of luck.
But there is a happy ending: Ken, the guy who bought the bike from the State police, was able to make a few bucks by selling it before the police and I could get there. Hilary, the new owner ( who got a screaming deal) now has a sweet ride for hauling her 9 month old. And a wiser me(get those serial numbers!) has some closure knowing the bike is not lost anymore, has a good home and is being put to good use.
Once again, thanks, to all in this wonderful community!
